WELCOME

"Hay", my name is Tom. I live near Geneva Ohio I lovingly call Hooterville. This is why I greet people with "hay". It is a great area, but my move from the city, Cleveland, to the country took some getting use to. Especially the utilities, or lack of them. I designed and built my own log home. It was an experience that I will NEVER forget. But I often try.

I'm a retired cop, from a college, (YES a real police office state certified just like city cops, but actually more jurisdiction). I guess they felt they had to hire me after I went to school there for so long. Some 260 credit hours by quarters and a 3.4 GPA.
With my retirement came a massive life change. And I'm still adjusting to changes. Looking for a hobby I started to collect sports cards and spent way to much from 1998-2002. That got me on ebay, and I met some great guys and gals on the "Trading Card Board" of ebay. I now have well over 500,000 cards.

Then somehow I started to get back into my animals, as I worked at an exotic pet shop as a kid 1972-1980. Life is strange. I worked there for about 6 years until my back issues just made it impossible. It got me out of the house, and I'll really miss that, plus my great customers. I do try to get in once in a while but not like I use to.  And over the last few years I have collected a few birds, most as rescues.  The birds I rescue DO NOT go to any pet shop. In fact the few shop people I know give me birds as they don't carry them nor want them.  My blue and gold macaw below was a semi rescue. I got her from a pet shop in Mentor Ohio. The manager paid $100 for her, as the owner was going to release her. She is a hyper bird, and was thought to be unhandleable. Yea right! I covered the $100 see phot below on how anhandleable she was.

At this time, I have 5 birds in my personal collection, and I gave my daughter 1, a Nanday conure. I have (1 double yellow head Amazon, [(Pretty Girl) only bird in 35 years I could not tame] with 1 yellow naped (Carol, but it's a male bird). They bonded and are happy, which makes me happy. I have 1 more yellow naped (Foghorn Leghorn) with 1 Blue Front (Miss Prissy). Both rescues and have been bonded since babies. I also have the 1 blue and gold macaw (April), a few of reptiles still, 1 dogs, 2-5 cats, 2 great kids, and the best wife in the world, just one.)

It appears I keep getting offered birds. It's hard for me to say no, so I'm starting a small rescue for birds. I do not keep them all, I try to find homes with qualified people that are willing and able to care for them. And at times, can not afford a bird and a cage. Some of the elderly love to have a bird as company. So, if I can help relocate a few birds I will do my best. Not all birds will be relocated. I have a small collection of birds, a few that I would not trust with anyone. Many larger birds can get mean if not trained properly. Especially within their breeding season.
